Predator Badlands

Synopsis

The runt of the clan, Dek must make his way to a planet infested with things that will kill him so that way he can stand among the adults as a true Predator.

Review

Take C-3PO on Chewbacca's back for an hour and a half, but killing giant monsters and you have this movie. A good combination of fight scenes, sarcastic remarks, and funny jibes, and you have the basis of this movie.

The opening scene is one of the best fight scenes I've seen on a 1v1 scenario in a long time. Prey also had a great one and the fact that I haven't written a review is again surprising since I watched it last year I think. Either way, there is a good balance between fighting and conversation that helps set the ton and background of the character. That fight + talking mechanism in this movie is a great story telling element throughout.

Elle Fanning should really get a huge "Well Done" from anyone watching it since she plays two very different people and both are some of the best characters in the movie. Much like Split, this balance and remembering how to talk/where to look really plays out so well.

My Rating

I really enjoyed watching this movie and really appreciate the spin from Aliens in the fight scenes. There is a large comedic element that while very funny, just takes away some action element of the movie for me. I laughed at the Toy Story wave in the final fight scene. It just bounces between the comedy and action so quickly that neither of them get their time. Even with that, this is an 8. Outstanding movie.

Parental Rating

Language is there, but it isn't crazy. Most of the violence is toward cyborgs or random fake animals. There is no family value so it isn't going to be my Mom's cup of tea. I think Dad would enjoy this as it feels like a more tame Predator so it will be easier for my Dad to watch it. So I am going to say approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
