Brief Review

This book was a very fun read that is close to a dream that I have had and wondered for years. The dream being that I did something that allowed me to be Knighted, and the curious aspects of that. This book's mystery is over shadowed by family scenes that take up most of the book, but are very well told.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

So this book starts off with a banger of an event. Something that I think more people would instinctually do if they had spent time doing the training. I think my biggest gripe is that I am not sure a 2nd Lieutenant would have had enough training in 3 months in the Marines, assuming that doesn't count OCS and TBS, to have an instinctual reaction to the terrorist attack that takes place. However, the way that it is told is right out of the manuals.

I think that I am beginning to understand why Tom Clancy is so well regarded. You spend about 30% of this book talking about driving around town, the routine of having a kid, the time in the hospital, and yet I was still entertained. I still looked forward to my run to hear more.

The action is where the reader gets their pay off. It is so explosive and enriched, that you have a great picture in your brain about what is going on. Again, my biggest complaint is that both the Secret Service, FBI, and the British equivalent of the Secret Service showed no tactics in the final battle and got decimated. They had pitiful tactics, and sad weaponry enough that I think they should have lost a lot quicker than they did.

Rating

I was just thinking about the final statement I just made and I know that this took place before the bank robbery in LA that militarized the police in the US, but the attack on the family should made the Secret Service bring more than Uzi's. However, the action scenes even the car chases made this a very entertaining book and I am excited for the next one. This is an 8.
