Based on the true story of an Arizona wildfire crew working to become a Hot Shot Crew and the fires they slayed to get it.

Review

For some reason in my head this was an award-winning movie, but based on the score of 7.3 from IMDB, I must be mistaken. I think in general I am just a fan of based on true story movies as long as they tell a true story. Movies like Snowden which pushes an agenda more than the truth, I still enjoy, but not like this.

This movie's cast is crazy packed. Josh Brolin from Sicario, Jeff Bridges from The Old Man, Miles Teller from Whiplash, Jennifer Connelly from Top Gun Maverick, Taylor Kitsch from The Terminal List, and James Badge Dale from 13 Hours. I mean look at this. That is just the people that spend the most time on screen. I think for the most part, everyone does really well. I can't pick anything specific, but something just doesn't hit.

The pacing is my biggest issues. High highs and super low lows. It is just really hard shifts that take you away from what is going on. I understand what they were trying to do with showing how the lives of these people are, but the transitions feel choppy and hard.

My Rating

I enjoyed this movie. Minus the pacing, the only thing I wish was better explained was how the fire did what it did and why their deployable blankets/shields didn't work. I just don't understand that out or a lack of knowledge and a lack of how to Google it correctly. I am going to give this a 7. I just found it to be slow.

Parental Rating

There isn't going to be a lot of language as it is PG-13, but they did push the envelope on the drug use, however that is very important to the story. No sex and no on-screen violence. I am going to say approved by both, with the caveat of my mom only watching it once.
