Official Secrets
I know the importance of what the United States did for the world, the blunders it had, the errors it continues to make, and ultimately the level of corruption that took place under the guise of "National Security." I say all that knowing that I am still proud to have served my country Post-9/11
Synopsis
The story of a GCHQ whistleblower who leaked NSA and CIA classified data about illegal spy operation into UN Security Council members leading up to the invasion of Iraq.
Review
Having served during the Global War on Terror era, I know the importance of what the United States did for the world, the blunders it had, the errors it continues to make, and ultimately the level of corruption that took place under the guise of "National Security." I say all that knowing that I am still proud to have served my country Post-9/11 and think that we did the right thing. Maybe not for the right reasons, but the right thing over all.
As for a movie, this one is very British in the drama. It is slow and full of this layered drama, which was probably a large part of the events as they happened. It is just the presentation of the events that makes it slow.
The acting is really well done. Matt Smith is beloved for Dr. Who, but I have only ever seen him in non-Dr. Who settings and I don't typically like him. However, this one was great. He and Ralph Fiennes were the best part of this. Kira, and I really like her acting generally, especially after Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl, but I just found it to be an ok performance. It is hard to judge honestly.
My Rating
These stories are more and more common, unfortunately. As I said, I served during this time so seeing these stories is important to me. I think the story is good and well presented, just slow and most of that is the difference between US and UK movie creation. However, as far as entertainment, it's rough. I am giving it a 6.
Parental Rating
No sex, limited language, and no violence. I honestly don't see anything objectionable from either of my parents. While this isn't about family, it is as there is a family element to it that I think my mom would appreciate. I am going to say approved by both.
There is one caveat, to the approval. I am not sure how my dad will feel about the traitorist act, but for the movie is something he would approve.
