Maxxxine

Synopsis

The continuation of Maxine after the horrifying events in Texas that took place during X. However, there is now a serial killer and a PI looking for her and know that she was responsible for the events in Texas all while Maxine is working to make her first non-adult film.

Review

The best of the three movies in this series, but by far the slowest and the weakest ending. This movie had a great cast weirdly. Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and of course Mia Goth, however I would not put her to the same caliber as the others. She does a great job for this character, but it hasn't changed from the last movie and there is no change in this movie as far as character development. I think the only thing she has really learned from X to Maxxxine is she needs to be on the offensive rather than defensive and even that she still ignores good sense.

This movie is a lot easier to watch as it isn't covered in porn, 80s style gore heavy scenes, or just over acting. There are some sex scenes for sure, a couple scenes with 80s gore, but at least most of them are decently cool.

The story is by far the best of the three. It tells a complete story that is enriched and littered with references to X. This is a true sequel that needs X to really fill in the story and without it, this slow movie is even slower.

That is the true weak point of this movie. It, like the previous ones is slow. However, this one takes it to a new level. There are so many establishing shots, time passage shots, and just random conversations that in the end don't matter. I don't think that the ending of action, which is typical of these movies, justifies the slowness and the story isn't enough to make these establishing shots worth it.

My Rating

I like the interweaving of stories from X to Maxxxine. It is really cool to see the pieces fall together and really make this series worth a watch. The acting is really well done and is overall enjoyable. I also enjoyed the meta notes about how this movie was going to put the director on the map in the movie and if there was a real life movie by this person that was going to put them on that map, it would be Maxxxine. However, this movie had me scrubbing at least 15 seconds multiple times just to skip ahead, and I still thought it was slow. This is a 6 with that being a bit generous honestly. What keeps it there is the full picture of X to Maxxxine (Pearl doesn't matter in this movie really).

Parental Rating

This one is just like the rest. It isn't going to be watched by my parents at all. From a porn scene (They are legit filming a porn scene in the movie) that is brief, to graphic gore for the sake of being graphic and a mountain of language, there isn't a chance they will watch this. Rejected by both.
