Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

I enjoyed this movie. It did take me the longest to get through. It might be a conditioned response from the times of trying to marathon these movies and just crashing at the end of the night, but I never wanted to start the last hour of this movie.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Synopsis

The final chapter as the fellowship stops the invasion of Sauron's forces while Sam and Frodo continue to blunder their way to Mt. Doom.

Review

While this is probably everyone's favorite, it is the SLOWEST of them all when watching the extended versions. However, it is also some of the best thematically. Again, I have to talk about the practical settings. I know that at this time, it was getting big to use CGI for background, looking at you Star Wars (Don't worry I still love you), but Lord of the Rings does not do that. Practical sets and people just working together to make a beautiful movie.

The story itself is so good, and it is really one of the best complete movies you will ever watch. What I mean is that because of the 30 endings in this movie, you know everything that is going on at the end. There isn't a bow tie that is complete.

There is a scene here that I really think is stupid is the one with the spider. I know it might be important, but I don't see what it is. It just feels really out of place. I think it also creates a really weird time when Sam is carrying the ring, and it doesn't affect him, but when he tries to give it away it calls him. Then at the end he makes a comment "I can't carry the ring, but I can carry you." Look this movie is 20 years old, so I have no issue with spoilers. Also, the book is 60+ years old.

So with things that don't make sense, I am not going with the Eagles thing because that is a stupid argument, but the movie should have ended with Aragon saying "My friends, you bow to no one." Perfect ending. Would have been a beautiful ending without a thousand bow ties. Also, Aragon has some serious gray hairs in his beard in the final scene, but it should only be a couple of days/weeks. I am guessing this because there is a statement about it being 13 months since the beginning and so it doesn't make sense. I feel that might be a movie statement, because I think it is YEARS that Gandalf was looking into the ring. Furthermore, I have never read the books and never will. I have tried multiple times, but I can't get behind the 6 pages to describe a forest. Crap like that.

My Rating

I enjoyed this movie. It did take me the longest to get through. It might be a conditioned response from the times of trying to marathon these movies and just crashing at the end of the night, but I never wanted to start the last hour of this movie. I knew how it ended, even with It feeling a bit serendipitous, and enjoy it, but it just too long. IMDB gives it a 9, but that is a bit much. It is an 8 and could have been a 9, but 30 endings are too much.

Parental Rating

The violence of this movie much more animated rather than realistic. There is no language or sex. The story is good, but there isn't a chance they are watching this. Rejected by both just due to lack of interest
