Last Breath

Synopsis

While working to repair a piece of deep sea equipment, a diver is trapped as the elements rage against the rescue crew who works desperately to get back to the ocean depth.

Review

Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu are so good in this. They put on a commanding performance with one section that seemed a bit off. I'll call it out, but it isn't crazy. There is a scene where Woody is crying and it just feels so fake. He is hiding his face, and it just doesn't sit right. It is a decently short movie, so there isn't a lot that happens. Or so you would think. However, there is so much that happens.

The setting is so good. There is also so much cool technology and learning that you get just through osmosis. I mean, a 4-day decompression is absolutely crazy. I know that you need 2 10-minute hold sessions when you dive at 100 feet, but 4 days? Not only that, but I really want to see the math on that.

I can't really say much about the story as it is based on a true story and I don't want to ruin what goes on. What happen is a crazy miracle and will always be one of those things that you just wonder how.

My Rating

My wife said it best, this movie gives so much tension so early on. Claustrophobia, whatever the word is for being afraid of open water, and just running out of oxygen are pressed on you. It was a very entertaining movie, that just felt light for a true story. I am going to give it a 7.

Parental Rating

This was a good movie for sure. Some language, no violence, and no sex. This is a passionate movie that while it isn't about family, it is about returning to do the right thing and keeping promises. Mom is in. Dad will enjoy it as well. High stress with limited language. Approved by both.
