Synopsis

A blacksmith at the lowest of his life is asked if he wants to go to Jerusalem to become the next Baron of Ibelin. Upon his arrival in the Holy Land, both politics and real life threats face him at every corner while he attempts to be the knight he is supposed to be.

Review

One of the best movies out there that I feel a lot of people have forgotten about. This is the first thing that comes to mind whenever u think about this move and the second is how good Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson are.

Actually, this cast really good all the way through. You hate the people you are supposed to hate, like the people who are “good” and almost sympathize and understand the crusade from both points. There is a line where Saladin is asked what does Jerusalem means to him, and he says: "Nothing… and Everything." The line is probably one of the first lines that showed me that movies can be about more than entertainment. It is a pivotal line in the movie and to the problems over there now. Nothing has changed in a century.

Outside of that, the action is either superb, or mediocre. There is a fight scene in the woods early in the movie that is just epic. Outside of that, it mostly is snapshots of epic fights with most of it being relatively short actually fighting. It is one of my biggest frustrations with this movie, but it really isn't an action film and more drama.

My Rating

This and Assassin's Creed have such a symbiotic relationship for me. Both causing me to think of the other. This I have watched the extended version of this movie many times. To be honest, I am surprised I have not written this review already. I find this movie to be very entertaining and the case to be outstanding. The biggest issue, whether extended or not, is pacing. This is seen where they cut to Orlando doing some farm work, and it makes sense for the character, but it is never shown again. Almost like it doesn't matter. All of that aside, you should watch this movie. I am giving it an 8.

Parental Rating

There is some infidelity and therefore a small sex scene, or at least the implication of it. There is also a decent amount of violence and blood. I feel the language is limited "smaller" swear words, but there is a decent amount from the Christians in this movie, which is funny. This is not a family movie whatsoever, so without a doubt, Mom is out. Dad on the other hand might be interested. I am going to say approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
