King Arthur Legend of the Sword
This is a Guy Ritchie film much like The Gentlemen with more CGI. In fact, the main fight scenes at the end and their CGI are one of the biggest hits to this movie. The characters are just to bendy and you don't have the grounded overlays of CGI enhancing a scene.
Synopsis
After the death of his father, the original owner of Excalibur, Arthur grows up on the streets and learns the hard way to life. That all changes when he pulls the sword from the stone and he is forced to acknowledge his past.
Review
This is a Guy Ritchie film much like The Gentlemen with more CGI. In fact, the main fight scenes at the end and their CGI are one of the biggest hits to this movie. The characters are just to bendy and you don't have the grounded overlays of CGI enhancing a scene. You have a pure CGI scene that just feels bad.
I do love Charlie Hunnam's version of Arthur though. He is self-assured and was capable and charismatic long before coming to power and throne. I mean people love him before he is forced to attempt the pull of the sword. So there isn't this, plot requirement that when he becomes king, he automatically knows what to do and he isn't a pure optimist. Jude Law is boring in this movie, and that is putting it kindly. He doesn't do anything but mope around and whine about not having the sword. Even when he does the evil that he does, their is either so much CGI that you can't tell it is him or he just doesn't sell the performance.
The story and the non-CGI action is really fun. The fight scenes are well choreographed and there is a legitimate movement that feels real which is probably why the CGI just feels so egregious.
My Rating
This is an entertaining movie. Not something you are going to run to the theater to watch, but it's fun. Charlie does a great job, but the rest of the cast just kind of sits around. I am not sure what the point of the witch is honestly. She does one thing and then nothing. It is this and the CGI that pull this movie down. It is a 7.
Parental Rating
There is some language and a decent amount of violence. While Arthur does grow up in a brothel, there isn't any nudity that would ultimately suggest that, just the wording around it. I think the action is enough and the language is limited enough that my dad would watch this. However, it for sure isn't Mom's cup of tea. Approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
