Jack Ryan Ghost War

Synopsis

Jack is trying to retire, but the old team is in need of his help after a British agent is betrayed. Their hunt is against someone who is one step ahead and pressing a Greer to relive his fall from grace.

Review

There is nothing good about this movie other than entertainment. The pull in from the Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series is conversational only and you really don't feel the weight of it. It just feels like it is there.

For John and Wendell, I think they are challenged by the script more than their ability, because it feels phoned in. Not quite "I am here for the money," but they are sure there for one last ride and aren't going to put their all into it. John's weapon handling has taken a relatively large hit compared to the show, which makes sense because he isn't doing that kind of work often.

There are also some issues I have with some of the camera angles or CGI. There is a scene where Greer and Jack are talking early in the movie and it just feels like a greenscreen. It is touched up for sure and it just doesn't play out well. There is just something that makes it feel cheap.

My Rating

This movie is short. It isn't deep and really answers questions that I don't think anyone asked. I'm really sad at the throw away line of an old relationship and forced relationship that exist in this movie. That is the best explanation of this movie. The entire thing feels forced and doesn't have that spy thriller setup that you got from the old movies even. It is not something you'll return to. But it is fun. It is a 6.

Parental Rating

Language and violence. There isn't anything else to this. The language isn't crazy but it is consistent. I think my Dad would approve and my mom would reject it.
