Synopsis

After being held captive and seeing his weapons used against the people he was attempting to protect, Tony Stark creates a suit to fight evil.

Review

The movie that started it all. The movie that brought the return of Robert Downey Jr. I know in [[Captain America The First Avenger]] I said I don't like origin stories, but this movie is the exception that proves the rule. The pacing is good, the acting is good, the action is good.

For someone like me, who has never read a comic book in their life, this was the introduction that got me to care about the characters. I knew who Iron Man was, but other than random Saturday morning cartoons or Marvel vs. Capcom arcade games, I'd never had any experience with them. This movie is what I hope the series returns to as Bob Iger is back and [[The Fantastic Four First Steps]] looks great.

I really, really like Jeff Bridges in his role with RDJ. They felt like they had years of time together, and maybe they are friends outside the stage, but it felt real. The character growth was outstanding. I think that might be why this is the exception. Tony Stark grows up. His time in the cave was a catalyst that set in motion something that was at the surface.

My Rating

Between the CGI that set the stage for the next generation of movies, a compelling story, and outstanding character growth this is a fantastic movie. I want to give it a 10, I really do, but it just isn't there. It is an 8. A solid 8, but an 8 nonetheless.

Parental Rating

No sex, no language, limited graphic violence. Ok there are a couple scenes of someone sticking a hand inside Tony's chest so that is a bit outside my mom's preferences. My dad really enjoys this movie and Mom isn't completely apposed to it, so I am going to say approved by both.
