Hush
Where you kind of lose me is the why. Why did this dude attack the neighbor? Why did he attack her? Yes, he is sociopathic, psychotic, etc., etc. but what caused him to go that direction. It is refreshing that he didn't spill his guts before almost killing the girl, but his arch still makes no sense
Synopsis
A deaf and mute writer who has moved into the woods, is trapped by a seditious masked killer who shows up outside her house after killing her friend and neighbor.
Review
Knowing what I know now, I wonder if this was part of the inspiration for John Krasinski to make The Quite Place. The lack of music and sound at times, pulls you into this story. Most of the problems with this is more about the plot armor than anything else.
So the setting makes a lot of sense for what is going on. A lone in the woods is what makes sense for this situation. Where you kind of lose me is the why. Why did this dude attack the neighbor? Why did he attack her? Yes, he is sociopathic, psychotic, etc., etc. but what caused him to go that direction. It is refreshing that he didn't spill his guts before almost killing the girl, but his arch still makes no sense.
Kate Siegel is outstanding in this. She isn't deaf, but she plays someone that is very well. Yes, they could have provided the role to someone who was actually deaf, but we are not getting into that. What's done is done. She plays it so well and I enjoyed watching it years ago when this came out and then when I watched it this time. However, I am very confused as to how some of the plot points work out.
Without giving the story away, she gets hurt, but not hurt enough to lose that much blood. Then, the dude who is can hear doesn't hear her scurrying around outside, unless it makes sense for the plot. Then she manages to move just in time to stab him in the knee, but he is able to move more than she can with the same energy? There is just a lot of plot armor for her based on the descriptions they give.
My Rating
I enjoy the premise of this movie so much. It makes so much sense and the story is compelling. I do wish there was a bit more intelligence to both the heroin and the bad guy, but I was still entertained. I highly suggest you watch this just to experience a different type of horror. It is a 7.
Parental Rating
There is limited language, speaking that most of the movie has little to no words in it. However, when words are said by the bad guy, he does choose some very choice ones that most people don't like. There is a significant amount of blood. While the amount of language is limited, I still think dad would be upset, however, not too upset. So I am going to say approved by Dad, barely, and rejected by mom.
