House of the Dragon

Synopsis
As the King dies, a final sentence leads the realm into a civil war between House Targaryen (The Blacks) and House Targaryen/Hightower (The Greens). The families are using the most powerful weapons of their time, but a weapon that is fading. Dragons.

Review

Up. Down. Up. Down. Fight. Drama. Stupid Episode. Fight. This show has episodes that feel like seasons and fights that feel like a flash. It is those fights that keep you engaged and moving forward, but there is a lot to be desired.

This is at the end of season 3, and I have struggled to enjoy this show. For this season, episode 6 was so boring I stopped caring about the entire show. I wasn't interested in the last 2 episodes so I just waited for them to come out. Speaking to my friends, they have constantly been behind.

One of the things that never felt right and really didn't need to be in this show (I have no idea if it is in the book, but I am 90% sure it wasn't) is the incest between the son and the Mom on the Greens. It feels weird, it is over the top, and doesn't add to the story. Because of how much we knew about the Targaryens marrying their sisters and having families with them, that is a bit more acceptable. But the Mother-Son thing is just too much and makes zero sense for the story we have had.

The acting I think is probably one of the better things this show does. There is a lot of story telling in the writing and the movement that you just don't think about. There is a scene in the final episode where a noble is being held captive and the guy holding him is basically just standing on his chain since he is so much taller. It is about the process and the noble doesn't need to escape right now.

My Rating

I will finish this show, but I don't think season 4 will is going to change anything about the show. The action will still be good. There will be episodes that are so slow you want to turn it off, and then there will be weird relationships. This is for sure not A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms where you have weight to each episode, but there was a character that died that I was really sad that died. I enjoyed them, but this is for sure a GRRM show. I can't give this the 8.3 that IMDB gives it, that is way too high. Likewise, I think a 7 is too low though so I will be giving this a 7.5 here, but since I don't do halves, that makes it a 7. It just isn't an 8 for me.
