Synopsis

A music titan's son and friend are kidnapped. The perpetrator sends a ransom note that forces the titan to take actions into his own hands.

Review

This movie isn't for me. I watched it because of Denzel, and it might be the worst thing I have ever seen him in. He and Jefferey Wright are good. Their characters feel good, they work well together.

The musicality of this movie is good. My favorite scene is when Denzel and the kidnapper have this educational rap battle. It reminds me of the fluidity of Transformed and how there is a rhythm to the spoken word, not just the rhyme.

However, that is the best thing about the movie. The story is so shallow, Denzel's character is a joke, and he doesn't give a shit about anything but himself. There is nothing in the movie to make you care about any of it. The whole side plot of selling the company is just a pressure point that ends up not mattering.

My Rating

Everything I hate about Spike Lee Joints. An entitled kid shows up to someone who put in the work and expects that they are owed something. My first exposure to this story function was NBA 2K13(?) where he made the My Character story. Now we see it in Black Panther, Creed, and most other movies with Michael B. Jordan. I think he is talented, but he plays the same whiney kid. This is a 5. It is lazy, boring, and just a waste of time for everyone involved, especially the viewer.

Parental Rating

Give me 20 minutes to stop laughing at the question, and then I will still tell you nope. It is classic rap videos, so language and sex throughout. Rejected by both.
