Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Movie)

Synopsis

Harry, Ron, and Hermione return for their third year of school at Hogwarts, but the escape of a convicted murderer puts the school into additional scrutiny as Harry is the assumed next target.

Review

As I grew up, I was never a big fan of this movie. However, watching it now and it is better than I remember. You get some solid growth in the young actors and their characters while continuing the story that ends up being a larger portion of the overall story.

I really like the acting prowess of Emma Watson in this movie. She really fits the character's emotional strength. We also get to see Ron/Rupert become a bit more emotional and whiny like how we get in the books.

You also get very little noticeable CGI. Yes you have it, I mean it is a movie about magic, but certain things like Buckbeak are solid. He himself doesn't look too bad so that is good. I think Padfoot, Sirius in dog form, is a little rough and maybe that is the point since he just got out of jail.

My Rating

This is my wife's favorite movie in the series. I am not sure I agree with that assessment, but it is better than I remember. Having just read the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Book I know that there are some decent changes that I both like and don't like in the scene with Sirius and Lupin explain to Harry what is going on. Overall, this is an 8. It is a solid movie.

Parental Rating

This is where I think my dad would start to get interested. There is a bit more mystery and suspense than the previous ones. My mom also really enjoys this one if I remember correctly. So I am going to say approved by both, as there is no language, sex, and limited violence with no blood or gore.
