Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Movie)

Synopsis

Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts starts off different from the others. Professor Dumbledore has brought Harry into the fold on the fight against Voldemort and to do that, he must convince the new potions professor to help them.

Review

This is where the series gets emotional and powerful. You could watch this a ton and there are some scenes that will still make you tear up and enjoy the movie.

Daniel Radcliff's performance alongside Michael Gambon is incredible. These two do a fantastic job of showing the student teacher relationship as it should be. Daniel has learned so much and has gotten so much better.

I also like the dark and grittiness of this. I know the vignetting is annoying at times, I agree, but overall I really appreciate that just continued push to show how bad things have gotten visually.

This also has a very natural expansion in the relationships of the main characters. Specifically Ron and Hermione. Ginny has been criminally left out of the books as compared to the books and that really makes Harry's relationship with her just feel rushed and weird at times.

My Rating

This one is an easy 8 and that is exactly where Rotten Tomatoes and Audiences' put it. Like I said, there is some great acting and great styling in the visual story telling. I didn't mention Tom Felton, but he needs his own shoutout as this is the first movie where he doesn't feel like a thrown together character. He is my favorite part of this movie watching it as an adult. You can really see him stretch his wings. Like I said an easy 8.

Parental Rating

As with the previous ones, this isn't something my dad would watch. However, based on the rules this is something that is approved by both of them. No sex, language, or bloody violence. It is just a solid movie for them.
