Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Synopsis

The battle for Hogwarts and the wizarding world is on. The trio is working to destroy the horcruxes, but after the death of Dobby things are serious and subdued.

Review

This is my favorite of the entire series. There is no one in this show that doesn't just push their skills to the limit. Everyone was outstanding. Daniel, Emma, Rupert, Ralph, Maggie, Alan, and Warwick were just so good. It has been years since that original mind blown experience of first watching it, and it still holds up today. I can't think of a better set of scenes with Maggie Smith than show her skills as an actress than when she fights Alan and then calls down the statues. I will always remember the line "I've always wanted to use that spell."

Story wise, this is also so good. I referenced in [[2025 Episode 10 - Game of Thrones]] the scene where Harry and Voldemort take a tour of Hogwarts together, and it feels like an iconic scene as far as style. However, it is probably the most egregious use of CGI, but it might be the only one that really bothers me. The story overall is so well told. You get to see some serious character growth even in the last chapter of the series.

That thing that makes it weird and kind of ruins the movie is the epilogue scene. The old age makeup looks terrible. I wish it wasn't in the movie because the whole engagement between characters just feels forced and C level movie. There are just terrible. It is a writing issue, more than an acting issue for sure.

My Rating

As you can tell, I really like this movie. Part of it is because after 8 movies, I am happy it is done. Mostly though it is because this is the way you finish a movie series. A complete story, a great finish (If you ignore the epilogue scene) to an emotional, dark and gritty story. This is the only 9 in the series and the season I am most excited for in the new TV show.

Parental Rating

There is more blood in this than any of the others combine. Specifically there is a scene where a werewolf is gnawing on a girls neck, and she appears to be dead or close to it. The language is also more prevalent and while it is UK slang, it is said in such a way that I think my parents would understand what is trying to be said. Like my mom told me at a Home Depot in my middle school days, "If you are going to say 'frick' or 'freaking' you might as well say the actual word." There is no sex scene in this so that is good. Even with the above, approved by both of my parents.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
“Harry Potter and the Extending Camping Trip,” but I think this is one of the better and more true to book movies out of the series. There are somethings that I wish they had left in like the change in relationship for Kreacher and Harry, but I overall, it is well done.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Movie)
Daniel Radcliff’s performance alongside Michael Gambon is incredible. These two do a fantastic job of showing the student teacher relationship as it should be. Daniel has learned so much and has gotten so much better.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Movie)
If Voldemort is as strong of an Occulamentist or whatever they call it, then he should have known that Harry was seeing inside his head. I heard an argument that his arrogance stops him from thinking others are good enough to hide from him, but that is garbage. You’d think he’d know when someone…
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Movie)
This movie is really underrated, but at the same time I understand why people are not a big fan of this. We see these teenagers grow up and with that, some very questionable hair choices. I know this because this came out when I was high school and everyone was growing their hair out to match…
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Movie)
As I grew up, I was never a big fan of this movie. However, watching it now and it is better than I remember. You get some solid growth in the young actors and their characters while continuing the story that ends up being a larger portion of the overall story.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Movie)
Like the book, this is my least favorite movie. While it does setup the idea that wasn’t realized by the time of filming/writing that the horocrux’s were a thing, overall it is a continuation of this formulaic movie creation.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Movie)
ABC Family TV has basically made the holidays a Harry Potter marathon and since I have been doing a lot of traveling and the announcement of the Harry Potter TV show I thought it was appropriate to watch them again. With that, this series starts off with a bang
