Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
He could leap buildings in a single bound. However, in each comic they gave him new powers to fight the new villains. With the Infinity Stones being the major premise of these phases, you have to tame the people who can wield them. So this entire movie is to take away that power from him.
Synopsis
The Guardians are struggling as a team, allowing for things between them to crumble. This is exacerbated by Peter's father showing up and taking him away from the team.
Review
Much like Guardians of the Galaxy, this is a comedic hero movie. There are a ton of jokes in here that I loved the first time I watched this and the other day. Specifically, when Peter calls Rocket a "raccoon" and then a "trash panda". It just makes me chuckle and is easily one of the best jokes in the movie. With that in mind, the comedy is the best part of this movie hands down. That is all thanks to Baby Groot and everyone trying to explain things to him. I don't think I have laughed so hard in a movie when they are trying to get him to collect something. It is funny.
I think the movie does a better job of presenting a story of the team than anything else. The story with Ego feels like a waste of time and takes a massive back seat to the team growing. That works for me. I am all about this. The whole Ego thing is so confusing and really pointless and really feels like a movie to make sure he doesn't have the Superman problem. For reference, when they were writing Superman comics originally, he couldn't fly. He could leap buildings in a single bound. However, in each comic they gave him new powers to fight the new villains. With the Infinity Stones being the major premise of these phases, you have to tame the people who can wield them. So this entire movie is to take away that power from him.
The acting is fine. I really like Peter and Gamora's conversations and dance. There is something about that "thing that isn't spoken" when in a new relationship, and it is a powerful thing. The animators really should get some props for their visual acting for Baby Groot because his entire storyline is the best part of this movie.
My Rating
This is a fun movie. It isn't bad, and it is far far better than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I just checked that movie to see what I gave it and I gave it a 7. This one's story is better and I love Baby Groot. Who doesn't? So I have to give this an 8, but I did initially want to give it a 7.
Parental Rating
Oooo I am honestly not sure. I don't think content wise there is anything wrong with this movie that my parents would outright reject, but it just isn't their movie. The language isn't terrible. There is very little graphic violence, if any at all. Finally, there is no sex. However, the movie is pretty surface level movie, so there isn't a lot to object to or appreciate. So I am going to say approved by Mom since it really is about family, just more of a chosen family, however, Dad would not watch it.
