Fallout
If you like the Fallout games, you will love this show. There is a lot of dumb humor that you would get in the game, outright gory weapon violence, and some surprising emotional beats.
Synopsis
Living in a atomic Vault, an idyllic location meant to protect people from the atomic war on the surface, Lucy is forced to go and rescue her Dad after he is captured by Raiders that manipulate their way into the vault. This trip teaches her that the story she has been told about there being no life on the surface was an outright lie.
Review
If you like the Fallout games, you will love this show. There is a lot of dumb humor that you would get in the game, outright gory weapon violence, and some surprising emotional beats.
Ella Purnell and Walton Googins are outstanding in their primary roles of the show. Ella does a great job of playing a naive vault dweller that learns the world is rough, but holds on to her character and beliefs that it can be better. Then there is Aaron Moten. I can't stand his character for six of the eight episodes. This is purely an issue with writing and not his ability, but he is a bit insufferable. His character rebounds and switches constantly throughout the show to make it kind of annoying to watch.
The action scenes and settings are outstanding in this show. I mean, Power Armor suits just wailing on people, Walton's shotgun with missiles (basically) just tearing through people, and then just the great bits of slow-mo action that you get throughout the season. This is what keeps you involved throughout the entire season.
One thing that I was surprised by in the last episode was the emotional beat, the circling of all the information that we had been passed throughout the season, and the characters coming together like the spider-web you expect from other shows. It was so well done. You felt for Lucy getting this bombshell of information, the Ghoul moving his life forward for the first time in 200 years, and then it just crumbles. It pushes you to the edge of your seat and you are excited for the next season.
My Rating
I have enjoyed the Fallout games. There are few games that have such a variety of endings based on your choices like these. This show provides some great information surges that have long been suggested in the games and in the show are HEAVY in the suggestion. You also get a TON of easter eggs for multiple games. This is an easy 8, but since I have enjoyed the games it is a 9.
Parental Rating
Gore is CONSTANT throughout the show. I mean they are carrying a head for 6(?) episodes. Language is also constant in this to include VERY crude explanations of sexual activity. They are funny, but explicit. Sex is discussed and there is a couple scenes that show sexual activity. I cannot see my parents watching this due to these items, as well as there really isn't much family involvement in this show. Rejected by both.
