F1

Synopsis

A former Formula One driver is asked by a friend to come support the team and mentor a immature driver.

Review

This is an F1 version of Top Gun Maverick. However, where Maverick is more comedy heavy, there is a tension in this movie that you don't get in Maverick.

Brad Pitt is hit or miss with me and this one is a grand slam. He is outstanding and you really get to see his natural charisma. Actually, I believe the correct term now might be "rizz." I don't know. His chemistry with the team and even the mom who is in Ted Lasso. The young driver, Damson Idris, I could leave. I am not sure if it is the actor or the character, but I just can't stand him. I will have to watch him in something else to make that determination.

The story is good. While completely implausible I would assume, I have not watched Drive to Survive, there is a level of realism from the writing that makes you just care and believe in this story. It is also this Old School vs. New School. Reminds me of the Skyfall poem.

My Rating

I watched this in theaters with the co-host of the Epic Screen Time Podcast and then again with my wife and her parents. Having a surround sound really makes this movie feel alive and enhances that feeling of tension and anxiety. This movie is an 8 for me with some of the characters being weird.

Parental Rating

There is some language. In fact, IMDB's Parental Guide says:

"Strong language includes "a**," "a--hole," "b*st*rd," "b**ching," "d*mn," "son of a b**ch", "d--khead," "godd*mn," "pr--k," "scr*wed," "s--t," "h*ll", "bl**dy", "p*ss", "a*sehole", "a*se", and a couple uses of "f--k."

I just thought that was funny how they censored themselves in this like people don't know what it is. I will disagree with the last one as it is a PG-13 movie, so I think it can only have one, but there are a couple middle fingers. There is no sex, but a lead up to sex is seen. There is no blood or gore, but some intense crash scenes. I would like to think that my dad would watch it, but would grumble about the language, but I know there is quite a bit of it so he wouldn't. On the other hand, I think Mom might enjoy it if she was to watch it with someone who wanted to see it. So I am going to say that it is rejected by Dad for language, but approved by Mom for the overall story and content.
