Ender's Game
I’ve loved Ender’s Game for decades, rereading it many times. Card’s writing, Ender’s brilliance and empathy, and the deeper themes still inspire me. The series outshines his other work, and this book especially pushes me to work harder. It’s an easy 9/10 for me.
The Book in 1 Sentence
One of the best Young Adult books you will ever read as a kid and as an adult.
Brief Review
This book is an outstanding piece of media. This is by far Orson Scott Card's best series. Having read some of his other ones, Treason is the one the comes to mind right now, I don't think comes close to touching this series, especially the Ender's Shadow portion.
Why I Read this book
I love this book. This series. It is so good on so many levels. The song below has been popping up on my Spotify and I always thought it was written for this book.
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
So in middle school, in my English class, when we had to do dioramas', my friend Erik(?) did his on this book, and I was sold on it. That was more than 2 decades ago. Since then, I have read this book at least 5 times.
I feel like I need to give Erik his due and tell you what the story is about. In the future, an alien race has attempted to invade Earth twice and Humans have narrowly escaped both times. After the second one, they form a Hegemony to battle the next invasion and part of that is taking the best of humans and training them for battle at a young age. The book follows Ender, a third in a world where parents are only allowed to have 2 kids, who is empathetic and brilliant.
The writing is so good. As a kid, I always felt that the Demosthenes and Locke chapter was out of place. However, as an adult, I can tell you that it is pivotal for the series and just a great side step to what would have been redundant in the book.
Rating
This book has always been a book that inspires me to work harder in my studies. For someone who just does what is needed, this book did more for me doing well in school as an adult than anything else in my life. I love the characters, the story, and the overall premise. It is a true shame that Enders Game was so short, or it could have actually followed the book. This is a 9, hands down.
