End of Watch

The story is excellent. I really like to think that everyone that has a hand held camera is in the same class their lives just happen to interact outside of class. You have some really serious elements, from the perspective of human trafficking, brotherhood, and drugs.

Synopsis

A LA Police office, who is in a film making class, records his actions during his day-to-day while working shift with his partner and friend.

Review

This movie is sad. Let me be upfront about that. It is also exceedingly well done and what started my opinion that Michael Peña is one of the most underrated actors of all time.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael have the best on-screen chemistry I have ever seen. They are so fluid and nature throwing jokes and simple pranks while together for long periods of time. It is just very on par with my expectations and experience with pending an ungodly amount of time with the same person that isn't your spouse.

The action is good too. There are not these prolonged gun fights like what you get in war movies or movies like the John Wick Series and The Accountant. However, just like those, they feel grounded and real and make you understand the fragility of a gun fight.

My Rating

This is probably one of my favorite movies. The heaviness is intense at times for sure and can be a tearjerker. The director on this cut this video though to be lifted, and I just feel that it was really well done. I am giving this a 9.

Parental Rating

Nope. Not ever. Nope. Language, sexual conversations, and gratuitous violence. My dad would never watch this and neither would my mom. My wife said it was a very depressing movie. Rejected by both my parents.

I hope that Tom Cruise as Ethan is done, at least as the primary character. At this point I am cool with them rebooting it or doing a new generation. If they were to reboot, I am not sure who would replace them that would be able to insist on the realism that we have gotten for the last 10 years

A Body in the Snow

To be honest, I am not sure how to write this/talk about this. The case is going to be retried, it isn't over. So the "Truth" isn't really out there. What I will say is that Karen isn't the type of person who makes sympathetic juries.
