Blade Runner 2049

The shots in this movie are awesome. From the desert storms, the big cities, the San Diego trash sites, and to the giant digital display of Joii is just so good. This is a masterclass of blending CGI with practical effects.

Blade Runner 2049

Synopsis

30 years after the original Blade Runner story, K while hunting for Nexus 7 replicants finds evidence of a robot miracle. Everyone wants to either destroy it or be a part of it, including Deckard.

Review

I said this about Prisoners , but Denis Villeneuve is so good. I can't believe I have only watched this movie once before. I remember not enjoying the film that much as there is a lot that is woven into the original movie. However, having watched them both relatively close to each other, I can tell you that this is so good and makes so much sense.

The entire casts was outstanding. I am not a big fan of Mackenzie Davis as I think she kind of keeps the same expression at all times, but she is better in this than she is in Speak No Evil. Honestly, this puts Speak no Evil to shame. Ryan and Ana do a fantastic job of playing a robotic couple, and it feels believable. I never really felt like it was virtual even though it is blatantly shown that it is. Jared Leto plays a weird dude… like always and it fits.

This is great continuation and conclusion to the original Blade Runner. I think the only big hit that I have for this film is that without the first one, there is so much that you might not understand that it can't be watched alone. Well.

My Rating

The last paragraph above is my main hit. I think if you were to watch this first you might understand it was a good movie, but feel like you are missing a lot of the story, which you are. I think people would be more inclined on giving it a 6 or 7 without that information. So that is why I am giving it an 8. It is a great movie, that requires too much of the old one for complete story telling.

Parental Rating

This is a lot of nudity, blood shot blood, death, destruction, and language. My dad likes the original movie, but this one I think pushes the envelope a bit for him. My mom is out. A 30–60 foot naked girl "showing off her bits" as my mom would say, is a hard pass for her. I am hesitantly going to say "Approved" by my dad because the language is rough, but doesn't say his least favorite sentence, and rejected by Mom.
