Atomic Blonde
If there was ever a female Jason Bourne movie at the moment, it would be this. Close quarters combat, good ole “who is the real spy,” and tradecraft with the KGB makes this an invigorating spy movie with lots of drama. Also Charlize's outfits are spectacular.
Synopsis
MI6 is looking for a list of all known spies in the East Berlin operating area. However, this list is being taken left and right all while Charlize is looking to survive the KGB interference.
Review

As I was watching this with my wife, I know to keep here interested at times I need to remark on something that is more in line with her interest and to that I used Charlize's outfits. They are spectacular, and I am not talking the scenes where she is in something scantily clad. She has some stunning outfits and my wife loved her sunglasses. She rocked this 80s look like it was a fashion show, and it works for the movie. Never a distraction and honestly plays a part in the dialogue that doesn't feel forced.
James McAvoy is also so good in his heated speech choices that you feel his absolute love of Berlin. You want to cheer for him, but he just is slimy so you can't.
The story is also fascinating, but there are a couple beats that don't make sense or feel thrown in at the last minute. Specifically I don't remember there being a mention of “Satchel” a supposed double agent until the middle of the movie. I feel that it really isn't needed in this movie as the spy list is already a ticking time bomb. It does set up the ending, but that could have been done without Satchel plot line.
The setting is really well done and does a great job of playing into the action beats. Fighting on stairs and between cars, just a really nice set that just feels real and time accurate.
As a side note, I did watch this just as I was reading in The Main Enemy about the same events of the Berlin Wall falling. Was interesting to see kind of the post fall exuberants were very accurate.
My Rating
This movie was given a 6.7 by IMDB and that couldn't be more wrong. Are there things wrong with this movie, it is still a great story, believable acting, and compelling action. This is an easy 8.
Parental Rating
Nudity, violence, language, and gore. Also, some lesbian sex scenes. While I think the story would be interesting to my dad, I think the rest of it will make him disinterested. My mom is out naturally as the movie isn't for her. She might watch it with the kids, but would never enjoy it. Rejected by both.
