Synopsis

Follow Sheldon before he enters Caltech and learns about humans from the mortals that are his family.

Review

This was a great show. You really get to see a complete history of Sheldon and his family dynamics. There are some standout episodes and some standout lines.

What is really crazy is watching these kids grow into these characters. The entire cast just makes a concerted effort to really play into these characters and knowing that this show is 7 seasons long you really forget how little they were when this started.

Because they had the ability to rewrite somethings, the retcon of Sheldon's dad's affair. It is really well done and completely believable that Sheldon would see what he expected and then never corrected.

What I really want to call out for attention are the last 3 to 4 episodes. First off they are recent in my mind and also they are the best in the series. Speaking that we all know that Dad dies and that is where these people just pushed the levels of acting versus real life.

"It's weird when they cry" - Missy. There are a couple scenes in these episodes, the funeral and when Memaw ask the kids for help that resembled times in my memory from when my Grandparents died and my mom need support. The grief, the concern, the anger, all of it is just profound and it closely resembled what I remember as a 10 year old that I applaud the cast for their descriptions and displays of their grief.

My Rating

This show is a great extension of The Big Bang Theory and the cast does an outstanding job throughout the series. While the episodes are mostly short and wholesome, the final two episodes are its peak with those episodes being a 10 and 9 in order. Overall, this show is an 8.

Parental Rating

This is 100% a show that my mom should love. It is all about family, it is all about love, and it all about learning to deal with difficult people which we have a couple in our family. My dad based on the rules would enjoy it but would not watch it on his own. So I will still say "Approved" by both.
