The Terminal List
The Book in 1 Sentence
A much more depressing story of what James Reece the supposed terrorist had to endure to take vengeance for his team and family.
Brief Review
This book is such a well written piece of fiction that I am really surprised it took so long to become a TV Show. What I think slowed it down and in turn brings the book down is how depressing and callus the bad guys and friends are.
Why I Read this book
I loved The Terminal List show by Amazon and really wanted to see what the book had to offer.
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
I am not going to compare this too much to the book as the overall story and plot are identical. There are some plot points that are changed, like who gets killed by the "EFP".
This writing here is filled with so much anecdotal information about the teams and special operations group in general that you might miss a lot of the significance of it. For instance, there are conversations about individual team structures and leadership. There is also a section that talks about the return from deployment. That feeling of hyperactivity to return to a normal life is one that is hard to control. It also isn't one that just goes away in a couple of days. It takes time and effort to control which is also why when military individuals leave the military itself, they can be more aggressive in their conversation rather than a docile individual respectively. There is also some commentary about tradecraft and information gathering that should be kept close in mind (VPNs, cell phone tracking, etc.).
The story is great in this book. The initial event causing waves of activity to follow, and the mystery surround the event being investigated. Webs running through corrupt politicians, shady businessmen, and compromised friends.
The action is also so well told that you can immediately put your mind to the images being put in. Whether that is the wet work in Mexico or the bomb making in Texas, you can see James taking each action with care and when he loses control, you feel that within yourself.
Rating
This is an outstanding book and a great introduction into a newer author/series. With his new book, Red Sky Mourning, just coming out 5 days ago, I am eager to continue the series in the future and need to work through the rest of my audible list to get to it. This book pulls you into the world that actually exist and makes you think about situational awareness in new ways. Easy 9.
