Review
This movie scared me at one point. One jump scene got me as I was watching this on the plane today. Made me jump and that made my wife jump. That doesn't happen very often, but I can tell you why it did happen in this movie. I was thinking about a scene that had just happened with an amazing practical special effect. This scene has magazine pages flipping in a specific order and it is just wonderfully done. I was thinking about that and then the Nun popped up and got me.
Taissa Farmiga is honestly really good in this. She is very underrated and this movie kind of highlights that because you see a swarm of emotions and believe she is who she is play. Storm Reid's character, Sister Debra, doesn't have an enough character development to matter in this movie. She is really along for the ride and with that she is highly predictable. It was nice to see Anna Popplewell, Chronicles of Narnia actress, come back to the industry and she is alright. However, he character and Reid's character could have been blended into one without missing a beat.
The story isn't bad. Continues on the same trajectory as the first and you get a bit more insight. The issues I have with the story is there seems a lot of people who know more about what is going on and for whatever reason don't say anything? Just seems weird. The second thing is the relic. It just gets used without understanding.
This movie was predictable for sure, I mean most horror movies are, but there wasn't any real consequence so you kind of feel left out.
My Rating
I enjoyed this movie. Critics hated it with IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes giving it a score in the 50s. However, audiences gave it a 70+ and I agree. This is an easy 7 with a believable story in this universe and a cast that dove into the story. The jump scares were good for sure and it is a nice continuation of the universe.
Parental Rating
My dad was raised Catholic and my mom is a preacher's kid. This isn't the movie content for them. Even with there being no language, no sex, some gore, and little violence, this isn't a movie they would watch at all. I am going to say rejected by both.
