Review

This is a perfect replication of The Martian. As that is one of my favorite books, this movie was such a risk and I had such a high standard. This hit it and blew past it. The changes to the movie are honestly so minimal that you don't miss anything of value. There is one joke from the book that was taken out that was my favorite, but I understand that it wasn't needed.

Jessica Chastain is awesome in the Commander role. She really takes ownership of the team, and it shows in the mannerisms, the tone of conversation, and everything. The chemistry between Matt Damon and Michael PeΓ±a is awesome.

Also, I harp on CGI being terrible or distracting and this movie has a TON of CGI. However, none of it takes you away from the movie, from the events that are happening, or the story.

Speaking of the story, it is outstanding. Matt is funny in his delivery of the lines, the physical actions are real, and you just feel the weight of all the accidents and actions.

My Rating

I love this movie. It is hilarious, it's enjoyable to watch, and there is a lot of subtlety to the jokes and teamwork that just makes it fun to watch. There is nothing to not like. It is a 10.

Parental Rating

While there are no family items in this, as I said previously there are a lot of wholesome items to this. The language is limited and the blood is only some cuts and scrapes… well mostly. There is a scene early on with some minor surgery. Its quick though. I am going to say they both approve, mainly because I know they both enjoy it.
