The Jackal

Synopsis

The Jackal, a notorious hitman, has been hired to assassinate an important figure in the US. The FBI, who has paired up with a Russian Police officer, pulls an IRA fighter out of jail because of their previous association with the Jackal.

Review

As you can tell from the synopsis, this movie is a complete farce. Not that it was supposed to be anything else, but this just pushes it over the top. The FBI pulling someone from the IRA to help them find an assassin just because he has seen him is just crazy.

There is some interesting story happening her. If we take the craziness out of it, it has some good moments. The planning and subterfuge by the Jackal is really well done. He has to think through multiple avenues of escape, how to execute the plan, and how to thwart the FBI. This last part is something I want to talk about. During the movie they finally learn who the target is and instead of informing their bodyguards, the FBI thinks "We can do it!" Stupid. The other stupid part is the IRA guy meets up with his ex and then she leaves her husband who she has two kids with. At least it is assumed she does.

The cast is crazy. I mean we have Jack Black, J.K. Simmons, and Bruce Willis. Bruce is honestly impressive and the best part of this movie.

Actually, I just realized that I forgot to mention. This is not based on a true story, but on the actual "Jackal" who was an assassin in the 80s. We get stories like The Bourne Series and The Day of the Jackal from it.

My Rating

My frustration is evident. I remember this being so much better, but I can tell you now that the 6.5 it got is generous. There are a lot of issues the gun fights and the shooting. When I make a short about this, it will be the main thing that I show. It is awful. I am giving this movie a 6. It is cool-ish. Actually, I am going to give it a 5. The story just hurts more now as an adult and the gun fighting is terrible.

Parental Rating

No sex, and a commanding female presence. That is a plus for mom. The language is there for sure. There is a decent amount of blood too. Mom is out. The Russian Female officer isn't enough to make it worthwhile. I think my dad will be out too. Between the language and the scenes in the gay bar, this isn't his jam. Rejected by both.
