Task

Synopsis

A team is hitting drug houses belonging to a motorcycle gang. During one of their takes, a boy see's them so they take him away from the house. As this is being investigated, the FBI set's up a task force to find the boy, run by a team of local police and an older FBI agent.

Review

First episode… so ungodly slow that you almost don't want to continue, until the last like 10 minutes. Then you are hooked.

I have to give a shoutout to Mark Ruffalo. I talked about this in Episode 15 - Mission Impossible Tier List and in Spotlight about him being absolutely underrated. This is the show that proved it. He has this old man walk that for most of the show is perfect. There are sometimes where it drops and that is ok, but there is also a scene where he plays into it more and that helps him get closer to a target. It is incredible. The other two standouts are Tom Pelphrey and Emilia Jones. Tom took a bit to grow on me, but when he does, his actions become so clear. Emilia, who plays Maeve, I've never seen or heard of I don't think. But she came out swinging in this show and easily took one of the top spots above more seasoned cast members.

The story is really good. A bit predictable, but what isn't at this point. There is also a really deep conversation about mental illness and dealing with life while the world around you is fighting you too. There is a scene in the final couple episodes that is outstandingly beautiful in the conversation of forgiveness.

My Rating

Easily will be one of the best shows of the year. I am floored by Mark's and Emilia's performances. The action felt real, the characters didn't feel forced, and again, I have to say that Mark's walk was awesome. There is no reason that IMDB gave this a 7.7. This is a 9.

Parental Rating

I want my parents to watch this. It was outstanding. There was a lot of language, it centers around violence and drugs, and there was some sex or implied sex scenes. I cannot stress how much I think they would like it, but as Sam said about his wife, it is just too dark. I think I have to say rejected by both unfortunately.
