Running Blind
The Book in 1 Sentence
A return to Jack Reacher being the smart ass vagabond.
Brief Review
Jack Reacher is once again caught in the middle of a situation that plunges him into the investigation of a killer using ritualistic patterns to kill their victims. Lee Child does a much better job in this book telling a story that makes you think about how it is unfolding.
Why I Read this book
Continuing the series.
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
I was heavily critical of Tripwire in regards to the pedophiliac descriptions of a relationship and this book does not do that so that is very nice speaking that the relationship continues. Speaking that these books are a bit older, I am curious if he was beat up about that or if Jack being in a relationship based on the initial description just wasn't what readers wanted.
This story is interesting. I really enjoyed it for the most part. It is really well presented with the stress of each situation and you feel pulled into figuring out what is going to happen. There is such great structure to the investigation.
Where it fails is the lack of communication about Jack's mindset. For it being a first person story, the ending just throws a ton of information to you that was never really communicated other than once early in the story about why he thinks what he thinks.
The characters are well written, but I am not sure about the complete lack of ethics and morals at the FBI in this story. Granted I don't know much about the FBI culture pre-9/11.
Rating
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I was interested in finishing the story and who was the big bad. I know this series is long so it's going to continue getting better. This is a 7.
