Quantum of Solace

Synopsis

Continuing from Casino Royale, James is still searching for the group the killed Vesper. However, this is in line with saving the country from corrupt political officials and a group working to take control of the world precious resources.

Review

This movie is one of those that starts well, the middle is eye rollingly dull, and then decent at the end. Nope, actually not. The beginning is fine and then it slopes down like a ducks back after the midway point.

The action in this has a comedic value and it never pulls away from that. There is a lot of this campy, slap stick comedy to it. The thing that really highlights that issue is near the end when Bond returns to his hotel and is walking around the inside of the lobby on the walls while the people looking for him are on the inside. I feel like it is doing more to point out how silly some of the movie's actions are than actually being cool. Now as a kid, this was so cool, but now it isn't.

Olga Kurylenko is very tonal this entire movie. She doesn't change tone when she is upset, fighting, or scared. Her and Daniel Craigs chemistry also feels off. The young lady that pulls Bond from the airport when he lands in Bolivia has better chemistry. I just feel that every time they share the screen they just don't feel like there are there together. Almost like they did it at two different times and the videos were CGI'd together.

My Rating

I find the action and the story ok. There is a lot that is thrown together at the three-quarter mark. From Olga's backstory, to what the "Greene Peace" company is working to do. It just feels like they had recorded 80% of the movie and then remembered they needed a story, not just same running around the world chasing people because parkour isn't popular any more. I give this movie an 6.

Parental Rating

There is a scene where a girl is about to be sexually assaulted until James attacks the building. When the girl gets up, there is a shot up her dress which I find to be completely inappropriate and unneeded. It serves zero purpose and Mom would not be happy about it. The language is slight and British so its fine. The violence is very Bond without a lot of graphic displays. Approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
