Pirates of the Caribbean
Synopsis
The worst pirate or the best pirate there ever was works with Will Turner to save Elizabeth from an undead crew of Pirates.
Review
This movie is 21 years old. 21 years and still has some outstanding CGI that holds up. The underwater scene and the scene with Sparrow and Barbosa fighting in the cave are absolutely seamless. The phasing from human to skeleton isn't jankie and just really holds up. What doesn't work 21 years later is the up close and personal scenes of the skeletons. The are some obvious CGI elements, but it works out alright.
The cast just swinging with intensity in this movie. The all buy into the movie premise, they all care about the characters, they are having fun. You can see it from everyone involved to the point that even Governor breaks a couple times.
Watching this as an adult, there really isn't a lot of substance to this movie. However, it wasn't really made for adults, the occasional sexual joke that would fly over a kids head aside. It is still a little slow at times and just drags on a bit.
My Rating
This movie is nostalgic. A movie that is fun for the whole family. There isn't much else to say. This is a solid 8.
Parental Rating
I am not sure how to answer this. I think this movie is entertaining for sure, but I am not sure that my parents would watch it freely. Based on the rules, Mom would approve as would Dad. Language is limited, violence has only one spot of blood, sex is none, and the most realistically gruesome is the hanging skeletons. So I am going to say approved by both.
