Synopsis

Oakland A's general manager decided to use statistics rather than vibes to make personnel decisions on the field due to a small budget. This creates ripples through the team and the industry.

Review

The premise of this story is cool. I mean the evolution of a sport is one of the best part of sports. Think old school basketball when it had Pistol Pete and no dunking. It was boring, and now we are back to that, and it is boring again. I am not a big sports fan, but I do know that the dunk contest have been weak the past few years.

The science of winning in this instance is crazy to me. I am not sure if the people's weird stance that made them easier to walk, weird throwing arm, or what, but somehow they were able to get on base more than most.

While I think the story presentation is kind of weak, the acting was very well done. Jonah Hill is outstanding. I really liked him in War Dogs and look forward to watching him in Wolf of Wall Street (Yes I know it is a sin that I haven't watched it), but this is easily one of his best movies. He and Brad Pitt are outstanding together. They work really well together on scene. Oh yeah, I forgot Chris Pratt from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was in this while writing this.

My Rating

I think the ending of this movie is kind of boring. That is really my chief complaint about this movie. The acting is really well done. There are some scenes that make me want to rewatch this, but the story is important and weak. It takes away from the enjoyment for me. Maybe baseball people think otherwise. I am giving this a 7.

Parental Rating

A couple scenes with a decent amount of language. However, no sex or violence. My dad might watch this. He likes sports movies so he is probably down. The language will bother him, but one time he might watch it. My mom is out. While there is an element of a family dynamic in the story, it doesn't play a big enough role for her to want to watch. Approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
