Mission Impossible
Synopsis
Ethan Hunt is framed for taking a list of spies by his own agency, so to find out who betrayed him, he decides to steal the actual list to bring out the double agent.
Review
This is a classic in the idea of a spy thriller. My first, "Who betrayed him?" movie. As an adult watching this, I can actually see the real culprit shooting himself. I am not sure how Ethan didn't when he is highly trained.
As this is an older movie and it hasn't really aged very well. The story is good, as it really does a good job in the beginning about hiding what is going on. I do wish I had a bit more direct quotation about why, but you do get some projection which works. The best part is the technology at this point in time is just funny. The cell phone and the laptop. The terminal on the NOC list just makes me laugh way more than it should honestly.
I think the acting is very 90s. I know it came out then, but it doesn't hold up. Ving, Tom, and Jon are really good. The rest... not so much. Honestly, I think Jean is just overly predictable in his role, but we might want to blame the writers on that.
My Rating
This movie was VERY interesting in 1996. I think the story is mainly what keeps up with the times, but I don't think we could expect much more. That is where most of the score is going to come from. The acting is really hit or miss, but the story is good. The CGI can be terrible, but it makes for a good suspense. This is an 8.
Parental Rating
Limited language. Some blood, but not a lot. No sex. There is absolutely ZERO family element to it so that is an easy out for Mom. I know that Dad doesn't like Tom because of his Scientology Beliefs, but I know he does enjoy this movie. So I am going to say, Mom rejected and Dad approved.
