Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

Synopsis

Frodo is thrown into a centuries old conflict that is well beyond his skills and knowledge, but his character allows him to play a pivotal part. A fellowship is created to help him destroy The One Ring, but as with all things of power, there are players that want the ring for themselves.

Review

This is a CLASSIC now. I can vividly remember watching this trilogy with my friend in an all-nighter. Especially challenging after the extended versions showed up on DVD and Blu-ray. This time I again watched the extended version. Typically, I do not like the initial movie of a know series, but this one was so well done. I mean it should be with 3.5 hours for the original and 4 hours for the extended version.

This is a great start to the series from someone who has never read the books. You get backstory enough to understand what is the problem, you get the action and character cultures really well done with comments. There are some great one-liners, but I feel the extended version does provide some additional content to the growth of the characters. The fight scenes are really good.

My Rating

This is a great first movie. The issue is the length. It does get slow at times and for most people 3.5 hours is crazy. While I enjoy movies so long movies like this and Oppenheimer don't really bother me, I can understand people's issue. I am entertained. This is an easy 8, but the pacing takes it down a bit.

Parental Rating

Violence is not intense as it is more animal related rather than straight blood. The lack of red I think tones it down a bit. There really isn't any language and no sex/nudity. The entertainment and story is where I think both my parents will be out. I am not sure if they will be entertained as it is fantasy and then there is a LONG story. While the story is an allegory for the bible, I think it is too far from it that my parents would enjoy it.
