Flight Risk
Synopsis
A Federal Marshal is moving a fugitive from a remote village in Alaska, however as they fly across the wilderness, the pilot isn't who he seems.
Review
What a way to start off a movie with crappy AI video. I have never been so immediately turned off of a show or movie than I was with this pure fiction of a opening sequence. I mean White Lotus starts off with a dude holding his... "Pillar and stones" and this was more appalling. It is just lazy, especially for a Mel Gibson film with Topher Grace and Mark Wahlberg. However, I was stuck on a plane so I finished it...
This story line is good. A Marshall moving a fugitive in a small place. I am on board. However, that is really the end of the good. There are so many scenes where Mark is ADRing (Voicing over the scene to add lines) that it feels like two different movies were made. How do I know it was ADR? Becuase the sound quality is completely different of the spoken voice. This along with the story beat that you need headphones to talk because it is too loud, and then that going away maybe 20 minutes later is just frustrating.
This doesn't even scratch the surface of the craptacular and ridiculous CGI that was used while in the plane. For instance, there is a scene where Mark and Michelle are fighting, and they push the yoke of the plane forward making it nose dive. A couple minutes go by and based on the "view" from the window, they should have hit the ground 10-15 seconds before she even gets him off of her. However, she then stands up like gravity hasn't changed and the flight is still level and magically pulls out of a dive that should have killed them all so long ago.
It is things like this throughout the movie that just make it bad.
My Rating
I wanted to like this movie and say it was going to be great. However, it's entire entertainment value came from how bad the CGI was and the story which wasn't that good. Mark plays an extremely creepy dude with a terrible accent that drops in and out throughout the movie, there is a dude hitting on the Marshal over the phone when teaching them to fly the plane. It is just bad. This is a 5 at best.
Parental Rating
There is a lot of language, conversations about torture and rape, and some blood. I think my dad would watch it on a plane, but would be very upset. My mom would 100% not watch it. Rejected by both (Just like Mark should have for the role) due to the graphic descriptions of rape and torture.
