The Book in 1 Sentence
An FBI Agent tells the story of his infiltration and take down of multiple White Supremacist and Accelerationist groups.
Brief Review
This was a crazy book full of wild stories from sacrificing a goat, to selling drugs, and becoming friends with the most unlikely people. Scott Payne is pretty good writer and I have no issue with his story telling. Just want more information about certain things which is understandable based on the contents of the book.
Why I Read this book
I saw a portion of an interview where he was telling a story from the book. Sounded interesting.
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
For being a quick memoir, only 250 pages or so, it is packed with information. Well stories, not really information.
Actually the more I think about, the more I realize that this book doesn’t have a single bit of information of than that the definition and description of Accelerationist. Granted that is a crazy bit of information such as White Supremacist voting for President Obama because they believed her would bring the US to its inevitable end faster. Thus allowing them to set up their white only nation faster.
The stories he does tell are well told. Filling you with a good amount of suspense that he probably felt while in those situations. There are some serious things that could have gone way worse, but thankfully didn't.
How my ideas have changed as a result of reading the book
In the world we live in now, everything has a twisted meaning. The people that Payne dealt with have perverse Christianity and Norse Mythology without thinking anything about it. Hating Jewish people even though Jesus was one. As someone who has a large appreciate for Norse mythology, I have quite a bit tattooed on me and after listening to this I felt like I had to defend my decision as not knowing about that. However, that was to people in former group that might have been more aware of the threat than most.
I say all this because I know people have been told "Perception is reality" and that is not the case. These groups are the perfect example of that. They will intentionally vote for the person who will cause the most harm to the US, whether that is President Trump or Hillary Clinton. They want to see the world burn by any means possible. This is the idea of Accelerationist. So becoming more discerning is not a bad thing.
Rating
I said it before, but I feel if he had talked a bit about what the training course for undercover covered, even in large strokes, would have filled out the book a bit more. This book was entertaining, and I was interested in the stories, but it isn't a great book. It is a good book. I'll give it a 7.
