28 Weeks Later

Synopsis

6 months after the virus brought the UK to it's knees, NATO has sent to force to secure the island and repopulate it. However, the virus isn't dead and containment plans must work.

Review

I am not sure what the budget difference between this and 28 Days Later was, but this one just feels cheap. The CGI is pretty bad, they used the same song not twice, but 3 or 4 times, and there is a feeling constantly of "didn't I just see this?"

As for action, I actually like the action in this one a bit better. You have more organized tactics, a true plan for such a virulent virus. Actually, I was thinking about that during this movie. We learned a lot during COVID, and maybe the game Virus Inc. about the infection rate vs. death rate of a virus. Since this is so quick to infect, but easy to treat and can kill the host, why doesn't it just burn itself out? There are some really cool scenes of the tactics coming into play about how people react. The gas and the fire bombing were really cool.

The acting is better in this one I think. I mean it does have Hawkeye himself before he was Hawkeye and he is good. It also has Rose Byrne and Idris Elba who are excellent themselves. I don't really remember what happens to Edris' character, but I know that when Rose's character is moving through the tunnels, it sounds like true fear. It was really well done. The kids do a decent job, the daughter being the better of the two. The dad in this really bothers me from a story perspective.

The story is alright. The main issue I have is that there is no way the Mom would have been left alone without a guard, and the Dad kept surviving for no reason. He should have been one of the first to be taken down. However, his insistence to go after his kids adds a level of sentience that I think will play a bigger role in the next series of movies. At least I hope so since there was also some in 28 Days Later as well.

My Rating

This movie's pacing is horrible. High action, and low low low lows. There is so much time where so much could have happened that just doesn't. There is also some questions about the plot that I am not sure why it didn't happen the first time. It just feels like a fan film rather than an actual production film. I am giving it a 6. It just isn't there.

Parental Rating

Much like the last one, this is a hell no. The violence is much more aggressive with multiple times of someone's eyes being gouged out. The level of blood is much higher too. I think language is a little different, but still more than my Dad would watch. There is no sex or anything close to it in this one. Rejected by both in this one.
